At The Woodlands Mall on August 11, 2007
The Woodlands, TX – On Saturday, August 11, at 10 a.m., Sadler Clinic will sponsor a presentation entitled “Stress: Causes, Concerns, and Coping.” Internal Medicine Specialist Antwar Harrell, M.D. is the featured speaker. The presentation will take place in Future Court at The Woodlands Mall (first level across from JC Penney).
According to the National Mental Health Association, workplace stress causes about 1 million U.S. workers to miss work every day. A survey conducted by the American Institute of Stress revealed that 54% of Americans are concerned about the level of stress in their everyday lives. Stress doesn’t just affect adults; highly stressed teenagers are twice as likely to smoke, drink, and use illegal drugs.
Stress can cause weight gain, insomnia, and increased risk of disease. It is important for each individual to understand what causes stress in his or her life, as causes can be different for each person. Determining which stressors can be managed and which are uncontrollable may be the first step for many people who feel overwhelmed by stress. Finding ways to effectively manage stress is also essential to leading a balanced life and to maintaining mental health.
Dr. Harrell will discuss the positive and negative effects of stress on the body, such as weight gain and sleep problems. He will also discuss methods used to cope with stress including lifestyle modifications, use of herbal remedies, and use of prescription drugs.
Dr. Harrell earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine.
Sadler Clinic will also be hosting a health fair in the Future Court on August 11, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. They will offer cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, and vision screenings, as well as measure height, weight, and BMI.
