The Woodlands, TX -- On Saturday, March 25, at 10 a.m., Dr. Jerald Simmons of Sadler Clinic will lead an informative presentation entitled “Sleep Disorders: Ways to improve sleep and feel more rested during the day.” Area residents are encouraged to join Dr. Simmons in Future Court at The Woodlands Mall and obtain valuable information regarding sleep disorders for both kids and adults.
Sleep disorders affect nearly one-third of the United States population, while 75 percent of American adults have persistent sleeping difficulties. According to a study by the National Sleep Foundation, two-thirds of adults reported that sleepiness interferes with their concentration and makes handling stress more difficult. And, driving while fatigued from lack of sleep causes approximately 100,000 car crashes every year. Sleep disorders also affect relationships. A third of this country’s adults who live and sleep with a spouse or partner say that their partner’s sleeping problems seriously effect the overall health and comfort of the relationship.
Neurologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist Dr. Jerald Simmons will provide information on sleep disorder symptoms, such as snoring, insomnia, restlessness in bed, daytime sleepiness, and fatigue. He will discuss ways to improve sleep and feel more rested during the day and how sleep disorders can cause or enhance problems with behaviors and attention, resulting in a diagnosis of ADD / ADHD in some children and adults.
Director of Sadler Clinic’s Sleep Disorders Center, Dr. Simmons is a Neurologist and Sleep Disorders Specialist who is board-certified in Sleep Medicine, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Neurology. Prior to joining Sadler Clinic, he served as Co-Director of the UCLA Sleep Disorder Center in Los Angeles after completing his training in Sleep Disorders Medicine at Stanford University.
“Sleep occupies nearly one third of our life, yet the medical community has paid little attention to this essential function,” Simmons commented. “Fatigue on the job, driving while sleepy, and sleep deprivation have far-reaching impacts on our society. We pay dearly every year for sleep disorders with more than $70 billion lost from sleep-related car accidents, accidents in the home or in public settings, or lost productivity. Proper evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders can make a tremendous difference in our lives, productivity, and health.”
The Sadler Clinic Sleep Disorders Center treats the full spectrum of sleep disturbances. From insomnia to excessive daytime sleepiness, patients can obtain a comprehensive evaluation of their sleep disturbances and help you determine the cause so that you can return to night after night of healthy, restful sleep.
