Allergist and Immunologist Theron McCormick to Discuss Asthma and Wheezing

At The Woodlands Mall on November 5

The Woodlands, TX -- When is recurrent wheezing or cough a sign of asthma? What triggers asthma attacks and what are the best ways to prevent or manage them? Dr. Theron McCormick will answer these questions and provide additional helpful information on asthma and wheezing on Saturday, November 5, at 10 a.m. in Future Court at The Woodlands Mall. Dr. McCormick’s presentation continues Sadler Clinic’s partnership for health series with a program tailor-made for this time of year when unpredictable weather and shifting temperatures can exacerbate asthmatic and allergic reactions for people of all ages.

Asthma and allergies that affect breathing are on the rise. 20 million Americans now suffer from asthma, a condition that has increased by 75 percent among the adult population and 160 percent among children from birth to age 4 during the past 20 years. In Texas today, asthma is the most frequently occurring illness in children. Nationwide, more than 9 million children under 18 have been diagnosed with asthma. The most alarming statistic of all, however, is the number of deaths asthma causes every year, now up to 5,000.

It’s important to determine, however, when wheezing is present, if it is the result of asthma or caused by another medical condition and then follow the appropriate treatment regimen. “Asthma should never be self-diagnosed or managed without proper medical care,” commented Dr. Theron McCormick, allergist and immunologist at Sadler Clinic. “It is vitally important to determine what are the ‘trigger factors’ involved in each case and which of the many available medication options are best for each individual patient. Proper treatment and medical management plans can help both children and adults lead a more active and more symptom-free life.”

Dr. McCormick earned his MD degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine and completed his residency training at University of Texas Medical School at Houston, followed by a post-doctorate fellowship in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology. His practice focuses on adult and pediatric allergies, including treatment for allergic asthma, rhinitis, urticaria, insect sting reactions, and food allergies. The first allergy and immunologist to join Sadler Clinic, Dr. McCormick has special training in evaluating patients who have experienced recurrent infections, such as sinusitis, pneumonia, and certain skin infections.
