Family Medicine Specialist Dr. Peter Bigler to Present "Wellness 101"
At The Woodlands Mall on September 10
The Woodlands, TX -- On Saturday, September 10th, Sadler Clinic and The Woodlands Mall will continue their Partnership for Health Series with a presentation by Dr. Peter Bigler, Family Medicine, entitled, "Wellness 101". The presentation will take place at The Woodlands Mall in Future Court, first level across from J.C. Penney at 10 a.m. If an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as the proverb says, then Dr. Bigler's presentation on preventative medicine and wellness is easily worth 20 pounds of cure or more. Dr. Bigler will present an "information" overview of some 20 important health measures that can be taken to prevent and/or detect disease, who should have them and when. Among the topics he will discuss are: blood pressure, cholesterol measurement, cancer screenings, diabetes and thyroid screenings, vaccinations, and important lifestyle issues that affect health.
"It's all too easy," Bigler notes, "to forget to do the little things that are available to us to protect our health, but often these little things are what save lives. A mammogram can detect breast cancer in its early, highly treatable stages. While finding out that you have high cholesterol, can lead you to make lifestyle changes that can protect you from fatal cardiovascular disease. Many diseases are symptom-free in the early stages. The only way to catch them or prevent them is to make sure that we take advantage of ongoing preventive medical care."
At what age should every woman begin to have an annual mammogram? How often do adults need a tetanus / diphtheria booster? Which patient group most needs thyroid screening after age 50? Dr. Bigler's presentation will answer these questions and much more.
Dr. Bigler earned his MD degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and is a graduate of Texas A&M University. He served as Chief Resident in the Conroe Family Practice Program and is board-certified in Family Medicine.
