Neurologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist Dr. Jerald Simmons to Discuss Sleep Disorders in Free Presentation at The Woodlands Mall

The Woodlands, TX -- On Saturday, April 2, at 10 a.m., Dr. Jerald Simmons of Sadler Clinic will present "Sleep Disorders: Ways to improve your sleep and feel more rested during the day"
in the Future Court at The Woodlands Mall. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Sleep disorders affect nearly one-third of the United States population. According to a 2000 study by the National Sleep Foundation, at least two-thirds of adults surveyed reported that sleepiness interferes with their concentration and makes handling stress on the job more difficult. Sleep disorders not only affect productivity, but also safety. Drowsy driving causes approximately 100,000 car crashes every year.

Neurologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist Dr. Jerald Simmons will provide information on sleep disorder symptoms, such as snoring, insomnia, restlessness in bed, daytime sleepiness, and fatigue. He will also discuss ways to improve sleep and feel more rested during the day. He will discuss how sleep disorders can cause or enhance problems with behaviors and attention resulting in a diagnosis of ADD / ADHD in some children and adults.

Simmons, Director of Sadler Clinic's Sleep Disorders Center, is a Neurologist and Sleep Disorders Specialist who is board certified in Sleep Medicine, Clinical Neurophysiology, and Neurology. Prior to joining Sadler Clinic, he served as Co-Director of the UCLA Sleep Disorder Center in Los Angeles after having finished his training in Sleep Disorders Medicine at Stanford University.

"Sleep occupies about one third of our life, yet the medical community has paid little attention to this essential function," Simmons commented. "Fatigue on the job, driving while sleepy, and sleep deprivation are problems that have far reaching impact on our society. We pay a high price every year for sleep disorders with over 70 billion dollars lost each year from sleep related car accidents, accidents in-home or in public, or from lost productivity at work. Proper evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders can make a tremendous difference in the quality of our life and our productivity at work."

This event is timed in conjunction with the National Sleep Foundations "Sleep Awareness Week" with events geared on enhancing the public awareness on sleep disorders occurring throughout the nation. This is timed with the changing of the clocks forward, resulting in the loss of an hour of sleep.
